Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Why this Borough?

At the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, we have an exciting vision to build a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation for our residents – and to achieve that we rely on the exceptional work carried out by colleagues across every service.

Our ambition for our place, or residents and businesses is high, and so we look for innovative and enthusiastic people to join the team and play your part in the journey to achieving our vision, focused around thriving communities, inspiring places, and a council trusted to deliver its promises.

But it’s not just about what you can do for us. We are a forward-thinking and dynamic council where engagement, empowerment and wellbeing are prioritised and nurtured within our community of colleagues. Our collaborative, respectful and supportive working culture provides a platform for our people to flourish, achieve their goals and become the best professionals they can be.

The Royal Borough can boast one of the lowest Council Tax rates in the country and prides itself in providing value for money for its residents. It can only achieve this by having a dynamic and proactive finance team that is influential and is central to decision-making. It is also the host for the Berkshire-wide pension fund, covering the other unitary authorities in the county.

The Royal Borough provides a unique setting and context to make your mark. We are home to approximately 148,000 residents, including the King and the Royal Family, as well as many significant attractions visited by people from across the world.

We are committed to promoting and preserving the Borough’s historic assets, while also investing in the future with an extensive £3bn regeneration programme, which will support an enhanced quality of life, economic growth and opportunities for all.

The Royal Borough is a beautiful, historic, and culturally diverse community that offers something for everyone. You’ll find everything from excellent schools and a wide range of housing to national heritage sites, abundance of green spaces, and rich nightlife. We welcome you to a diverse, special and fantastic place to live and work. The Borough is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including:

The challenge we face

The immediate challenge, like all local authorities, is to ensure every pound we spend is done so in the most effective way. Part of this will be strengthening IT systems which is a key focus over the coming year, particularly in Adult Social Care with an eye on the Care Reforms currently scheduled to come into effect in 2025. Finance will play a critical role in ensuring the successful implementation of these systems.
