The CIPFA trainee scheme at Redbridge is designed to ensure an on-going source of qualified accountants equipped with the professional skills and detailed knowledge to become the authority’s financial managers of the future.
In addition to successfully completing the requisite examinations, trainees working towards the CIPFA qualification will need to obtain work place experience in a number of specified areas. A series of work based placements will allow trainees at Redbridge to meet and exceed the workplace experience requirements. Trainees will be rotated across a number of departments throughout the duration of their contract. During the rotations, trainees will be assigned a direct line manager with additional support provided by team members.
Placements would include:
• Corporate Finance – financial planning & strategy
• Corporate Finance – financial accounting, treasury & pensions
• Business Partnering – supporting “People” services such as social care, education & inclusion and public health
• Business Partnering – supporting “Place” services such as environmental & regulatory services, regeneration and culture
• Business Partnering – supporting Resources & Strategy
• Internal audit, strategic risk and insurance
Trainees will be provided with a work plan for each rotation aimed at addressing developmental and training needs for the duration of the rotation. Progress against these work plans and their suitability to meet CIPFA’s Practical Experience Portfolio requirements will be monitored.
