North London Waste Authority

Why us?

North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is the statutory waste disposal authority for seven north London boroughs. Our mission is to preserve resources and the environment for future generations by exemplary planning, innovation, and communication in managing north London’s waste. We serve two million residents and run communications and engagement campaigns to help them reduce their rubbish and recycle more. We campaign for government and industry action to reduce unnecessary single-use items, encourage reuse, and repair and promote effective recycling.

NLWA prides itself on being a unique organisation and values the qualities that each person brings to the team. It’s an exciting time to join us, as the team grows and takes on more challenges. We are an inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We’ll help you grow, learn, improve, and innovate to achieve success in all that you do, and we hope you can do the same for us.

What could you work on?

To help tackle the climate emergency and to prevent rubbish going to landfill, we are building the greenest Energy Recovery Facility in the country and modern recycling facilities at the Edmonton EcoPark, through the North London Heat and Power Project. Construction on this nationally significant infrastructure project started in 2019 and will continue for years to come.

You will be working with highly qualified and experienced team members across multiple directorates to enable and enhance learning opportunities in your time here. You will support strong corporate planning, accurate financial forecasting and regular financial reporting to deliver our aims. This scheme presents a unique opportunity to work with the Authority where you can gain a range of financial experience with a small organisation and large remit.

We are delivering a nationally significant infrastructure programme in North London, called the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP) to provide long term assets for the sustainable management of North London’s waste.

What's in it for me?

This position will allow you to gain experience within a political environment and an opportunity to work for both a local authority and a private organisation, London Energy Limited, which is owned by NLWA. This placement will also afford you the opportunity of a yearly rotation where you will be working collaboratively across two other local authorities (Camden and Enfield)This will allow for a breadth of experience across different organisational cultures and development of personal skills throughout your time with us.

NLWA received recognition for the redevelopment of Edmonton EcoPark by North London Waste Authority (NLWA), and its procurement of work at the site.  We were awarded ‘Public Sector Procurement Project of the Year’ at the ‘Tomorrow’s Procurement’ awards, hosted by Built Environment Networking.
