You can come from any degree background, as long as you
have achieved or expect at least a 2:2. On top of this, we’re
looking for GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above), and a flair for numbers.
Excellent numeric, writing, oral and presentation skills are a must, as are computer
literacy and first-class time management skills.
But there’s so much more to you. It’s obvious you’re a
leader of the future. You’re a born communicator, flexible
enough to handle constant change, and durable enough to meet every challenge
head on. Your insatiable desire to learn will be obvious, as will your ability
to solve problems with really innovative thinking.
Throughout the selection process we will assess all candidates against a number
of competencies or skills which have been identified as key for successful
performance as a finance trainee.

Analysis of Data / Information
Draws logical and accurate conclusions from a variety of data. Works confidently
and accurately with numerical data.

Proactive; works in a creative and flexible way, making the most of opportunities.
Looks for better ways of doing things/improve procedures.
Personal Effectiveness
Accepts responsibility; enthusiastic and reliable; shows a flexible approach
to job demands. Able to remain calm under pressure; willing to learn and initiate
self-development.
Organisational / Cultural Awareness
Demonstrates an understanding of the financial and political environment in
which the local government operates. Aware of the role of local government finance.

Understands what studying for the CIPFA qualification entails.
